Mr, Ben Gitae hit the headlines when he officially tied the knot with an American man, a Mr. Steve Damelin and has left many shocked, particularly those who are against same sex marriage. But who really is this Kenyan man?
Mr Gitae hails from Nakuru. He travelled to Atlanta, Georgia in the USA before moving to California where he met his boyfriend.
Before coming out as gay, Mr. Gitau had close associates and strong bonds with gay people in the in USA. A close friend to Mr Gitae, Mr. Kararu Ririi posted on his Twitter after the two married, "This afternoon I had a chance to congratulate my friend, Ben and his husband Steve on occasion of their marriage."
The two were seen passionately kissing each other as they were being cheered on by family members and friends.
Steve Damelin is a mathematics professor.
