She is the current Kiambu woman representative after quitting her career in journalism last year having been in the media long enough, both radio and T.V.

Gathoni won the Kiambu woman rep race with the Jubilee ticket beating the then incumbent Ann Nyokabi who is a cousin to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

After her win, however, Gathoni had it rough and she faced the wrath of the Kiambu people after demanding an increment of salary for the MPs.

This saw her branded 'Gathoni Wa Micara' (Gathoni of Salaries) by the Kiambu people who accused her of greed seeing that she had not even taken the oath of office when she made the unpopular demand.

She was, however, very fast to apologize saying that it was not money that she was after.

"I will gladly and humbly accept whatever Sarah Serem delivers to us. I never really looked at the money. I was looking for an opportunity to serve my people of Kiambu more” said Gathoni addressing the media last year.

Prior to joining politics, Gathoni was a radio presenter at Kameme FM where she hosted the popular Muigwithania show every Saturday morning.

Her show reconciled people and she was honoured by President Uhuru Kenyatta with a Head of State Commendation (HSC) for her role in family reconciliation and the fight against illicit brews in 2016.

Before rejoining Kameme, Gathoni also worked at Inooro Fm and Bahasha FM as head of radio in both stations. Her radio career in journalism started at the national broadcaster, KBC.

Wa Muchomba is also the founder and owner of the Smart media colleges which were popular for journalism courses. She later launched Utugi TV which dealt with agriculture and has since been rebranded to Wakulima TV.

Like many successful people, Gathoni's journey has not been all sweets and pancakes. She comes from a very humble background and that steered her to be a hardworker.

She was born and raised in Komothai, Githunguri in a family of four and a step-family of 11. With her dad being an irresponsible drunkard, her mother struggled to raise her.

She holds a bachelors degree in Education and a masters degree in Communication from the University of Nairobi.Gathoni went to Precious Blood Riruta secondary school.

Gathoni is also a family woman married to one Mr Robert and also a mother.
