The late Gabriel Omolo Aginga during his heyday. [Photo|BCG]Veteran musician of the "Lunch Time" fame Gabriel Omolo Aginga died on Wednesday January 3, aged 79 years. Omolo was among the few Zilizopendwa heroes of the 1960s to 1990s whose songs have stood the taste of time.He was raised at Muthurwa Kenya Railways headquarters in Nairobi. He picked up his music career when he joined the St Peter's Claver Primary School choir.His career gained momentum when he joined Equator Sound Band where he played alongside Daudi Kabaka, Fadhili William, Zambian legend Nashil Pichen Kazembe and Peter Tsoti.Omolo also performed with the Eagles band Blue Shades and later Apollo Komesha band.In September 1974, Gabriel became the first Kenyan musician to be awarded an International Golden Disc for the sales of his single, "Lunch Time". Omolo and his band, Apollo Komesha, had recorded 20 singles for Phonogram with total sales of 300,000 copies.He will be buried at his Nyabeda Village, Ugunja Constituency, Siaya County, after dying at the Busia County, Teaching Referral Hospital.
