Most often, the two are used interchangeably. 

According to Oxford dictionary, piracy is the unauthorized use or reproduction of another's work while plagiarism is taking someone else's works or ideas and passing them off as someone's own.

Kenya Copyright Board, Kecobo is a state agency that fights piracy and other related copyright offences.

The body, working together with other organisations like Kenya revenue authority, KRA and anti-counterfeit agency, protects books, music, softwares and broadcasts.

Piracy in Kenya is a criminal offence that attracts a maximum fine of Sh800,000 or a maximum of 10 years imprisonment.

Kecobo has anti-piracy security device, APSD, a tamper proof sticker that they put on legitimate audio and audio-visual devices like CD, DVD and VCDs.

Other organizations that work with Kecobo include Kenya association of music producers, KAMP, performers' rights society of Kenya, PRISK and music copyright society of Kenya, MCSK.
