Mutuku is brave and follows his ambitions to the very end.

When the politician announced that he would be vying for the Mavoko parliamentary seat in the run-up to the 2017 general elections, many ignored him.

His political rivals tried to convince him to drop his ambitions of becoming an MP but he stayed put. In the end, his name was on the ballot but unfortunately, he lost to his main political rival the incumbent Patrick Makau.

Here are a few things you need to know about Mutuku:

1. Five years

Mutuku was elected the member of county assembly and he represented the people of Athi River town ward for five years. Just like any other politician, he did not miss to have haters who openly told him off. He was accused of not doing enough to help improve his electorates' living standards. When he announced his intention to vie for Mavoko parliamentary seat, many laughed at him and vowed not to vote for him as they could not see his clear track record.

2. Educationist

Politics aside, Mutuku is an educationist. If people talk about colleges in Athi River town, they will not fail to mention Sunrise Teachers Training College, an educational institution which is associated with him. Situated at Site estate in the upmarket area of Athi River town, the college boasts of hundreds of trainees. The college offers many courses, not just teacher training.

3. Secondary schools

Apart from the Sunrise Teachers Training College, the former MCA is also the director of two other secondary schools. One is a boys’ secondary school and the other a girls’ secondary school. Both are situated in Machakos County. The good thing about these secondary schools is that they do not charge high amounts as school fees. His idea is to subsidize the fee to enable as many vulnerable children as possible to get quality education.
