After playing a key role in NASA leader Raila Odinga's controversial January 30 swearing in, fiery lawyer-cum-politician Miguna Miguna became close to an household name. After all he had done what many lawyers could not do. Not even threats from the state that the act was treasonous could scare him.
From there, many said that Dr. Miguna's political struggles could be a thing of the past.
Even after his first deportation to Canada, Miguna remained a popular figure in opposition ranks. His popularity in his native Kisumu County soared. Janyando, as he is popularly known, was the new sheriff in town. And even after his second return, demonstrations rocked Kisumu with residents urging the government to release Miguna after the airport drama that saw him deported for the second time.
Then, Dr Miguna for the first time blamed Raila for his troubles. The former Premier is the region's de facto political leader. Could it have a bearing on Miguna's future political ambitions?
Could his critique of the Uhuru-Raila handshake haunt him in case he retreats to Kisumu to contest for a political seat? The good news, however, is that Dr. Miguna is not alone in opposing the political truce. A section of Luo politicians have also expressed their dissatisfaction.
When he made his political debut in 2007, Dr. Miguna was humbled by Fred Outa in race for the ODM ticket to contest for Nyando MP seat . He tried his luck in 2017 while contesting for Nairobi Governor seat but lost.
So what next for him? Only time will tell
