A local WhatsApp group in Kerina, Kisii County has for the last three days raised Sh 90,000 for a poor biy who failed to join form one in January.
The group named as Kerina Youths came to the rescue Brian Okong’o, 16.
The student was found by the group's administrator Francis Marube roaming at Suneka town streets begging for school fees money.
"The boy was washing cars at a local car wash in efforts to raise his school fees. This touched me and I opted to share it with group members," he said.
Brian who scored 266 marks will be joining Itierio Boys High school.
He told Hivisasa that he has been living under the care of his grandmother after his parents divorced.
“I live with my aging grandmother who can hardly manage to put food on our table, my parents divorced many years ago and I was left under her care," he said.
He also said that at times they are locked out of the single room they live in Suneka for failing to clear rent arrears.
However, Mr Marube's move to alert members of the group saw the young boy get money for school fees and upkeep.
“I am so happy that through technology, my education is now guaranteed. I will study hard to ensure that I don’t fail the generous social media family,” said the boy.
He is now three days old in school.
