Deputy President William Ruto is among few politicians to test wrath of outlawed criminal sects across the country.
Months to 2007 elections, a defiant Ruto, then supporting Raila Odinga was caught in cross roads following an attack at Nyamarambe, South Mugirango constituency.
Believed to have been working under instructions from Ex-powerful minister Simeon Nyachae, youths armed with bows and arrows directly attacked Ruto injuring him on the knee.
A panicking Ruto was pictured being aided to a standby helicopter by the then MP Omingo Magara without one shoe.
When he visited the area last year during campaigns, a jovial Ruto narrated his ordeals in the hands of Chinkororo militia, who were outlawed by the government in 2010.
"I know you people are no joke. I remember when you flushed me a decade ago when campaigning," Ruto said.
Moments after the incident, Nyachae, who was opposed to Raila's candidature, declined to take responsibility even though he would indirectly admit being behind the incident.
"I don't know about that but when you joke around, we cannot sit and watch you destroying our people," he said in an interview.
Interestingly, members of the sect are believed to be giving Nyachae security in his Borabu home near Chepilat Township.
