World soccer governing body FIFA imposed an indefinite ban on Kenya for government involvement in football in the country on the 2nd of June, 2004
The ban lasted three months before it was resolved. The dispute arose after the then minister for sports Najib Balala disbanded Kenya Football Federation after a financial mismanagement dispute arose.FIFA wrote to the minister ordering the reinstatement of the body but he defied their orders. The defiant minister condemned the ban saying it only contributed to more misery on the country's football problems and was not at all in good faith. The national team was to take on Guinea, who had also been banned under similar circumstances three years before, in a qualifier. It was a difficult three months for the national team as a cloud hovered around their international credentials. Many fans called for the reinstatement of KFF which was all FIFA needed to lift the ban.The ban meant a young and promising Dennis Oliech would not participate in any kind of international for the next three months as the ministry looked for a way forward. The return to the international stage would be received gladly by many who anticipated to watch the stars who had just made history by appearing at the Africa Cup of Nations, an achievement that will last for at least 15 years.#Historynow
