Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana escaped death narrowly on September 23, 2014.
Kibwana, on the fateful morning, had walked into the Makueni County Assembly grounds for a meeting incognizant of what awaited him.
Accompanied by his supporters, Kibwana had checked into the assembly following an official invitation to a meeting which never happened.
A chilling gunfire erupted among bodyguards forcing everyone including journalists to scamper for safety.
Fortunately, Kibwana's security details whisked him from the scene where he escaped unscathed.
The shaken governor later claimed it was an attempt on his life.
Kibwana on the witness stand later told the court that the then leader of majority at the assembly Francis Mutuku was after his life and the gun drama was not a coincidence.
"I heard him say 'kala kamundu ni kaa athai', loosely translated as [This is the guy, shoot him before the hail of gunshots begins," Kibwana said.
Kibwana said the attack was because he failed to approve the budgetary allocation designed by the Makueni MCAs which was way beyond the controller of budgets' ceiling.
The speaker's bodyguards were also quizzed on the shooting.
Four of the Makueni County Government's staff and a resident sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.
The current speaker of the county assembly, Douglas Mbilu, was among those injured after a bullet grazed his head.
The gun drama marked the acme of bad blood between the two leaders.
