Retired President Daniel Moi once disowned his own signature to prevent Ex-KWS Director Richard Leakey from resigning, recalls Journalist Kamau Ngotho.
According to former Head of Civil Service Philip Mbithi, Ngotho says, Moi denied signing Tittle Deeds from suspected land grabber who had taken a portion of KWS land.
Cornered by Leakey, Ngotho adds, Moi termed the tittle deeds 'perfect forgery' and demanded immediate investigations by the then CID Director Noah Arap Too.
A visibly shaken Mbithi is said to have telephoned Too to inquire about investigations to avoid the wrath of the president on the 'forged' signature.
"What investigations? That was the president's signature and he knows it. I assure you he won't make a follow up," the CID boss assured Mbithi.
To make Leakey believe he was not involved at all in the land saga, Moi had directed the two officials to make arrests in six hours over the 'forged' signature
