Salim Masumbuko, was arrested in Mwembe Tayari, Mombasa by officers from the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB).

Salim whose father unsuccessfully vied for the Kilifi South parliamentary seat during the March 4, 2013 general election, was arrested alongside Joseph Kinuthia, Rose Wairimu, Harrison Kiburi and Francis Karanja.

"Such films cannot help Kenya achieve the Vision 2030. We need to protect our own cultures as Africans. Most of the films involve Europeans but there are others involving Africans," said Bonaventure Kioko, KFCB Coast regional manager.

Kioko indicated that there was widespread of pornographic materials in Coast which erode moral values, hence the need for the swoop.

However, Salim who was a final year Law student at the Kampala International University during the arrest, denied that he was dealing in pornographic material.

"This is not my shop. It belongs to my brother-in-law. I was just here holding brief for him as he is away. The films are not even from this shop. A client must have left them there because my brother-in-law does not sell such stuff," the son to the political activist said.

Early 2018, KFCB officers in collaboration with the police extended the raid to PSV matatus in Bamburi, Tudor and other parts of Mombasa.
