He first made his bow for the National men's soccer team Harambee Stars at just the age of 19.

His first game came in a fixture against the then Zaire Republic in 1994 when he was just a teenager.

The towering and strong defender would then go on to put in some impressive and consistent performances for the national team for more than 17 years playing as a first choice defender.

He then went on to captain the national team for a whole decade including the 2004 Africa Nations Cup where Kenya failed to make it past the group stages.

The 2004 Africa Nations Cup was his biggest stage and the Harambee Stars finished third in their group behind Mali and Senegal.

He was part of the team that beat Burkina Faso by three goals to nil which is by far the best performance ever at a major tournament.

He has also held the assistant coach position when he was elected to the position in 2011 when he came back home after the expiry of his contract with South African club Supersport United for whom he also played a pivotal role at the back.
