Kenya's founding fathers had to go through pain and struggle to deliver the country from the hands of the British colonialist. During the struggle, blood was shed and people died to see to it that Kenya gained its independence in 1963.
The British were ruthless and they did nasty things to try and bring down Kenya's leaders. The late President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta is one of those leaders who went through the fire all in the attempt to liberate Kenya. In 1962, Kenyatta traveled to London to attend the Lancaster Conference only to find British extremists holding placards written "HANG KENYATTA".
The extremists were angry with Kenyatta for allegedly leading a movement (Mau Mau) which saw the British sent away from the Country while some others had been killed during the resistance. Burning with anger, the extremists pelted Mzee Kenyatta with eggs as he went in. Some reports indicate that they pelted him with fresh eggs as he went in and rotten ones as he left.
Later in 1964 when Kenyatta had already become Prime Minister, he went back to London and he was again assaulted. This time, two British racists who were eager to defend white supremacy attacked him. As he drove his car outside Hilton Hotel that morning in July, a 21-year-old man bumped into a policeman and jumped to attack Kenyatta so badly that Kenyatta's car got dented.
On the other side, there stood another 30 years old extremist who was shouting "Kenyatta go back to Africa. This is the man who murdered our white brethren in Africa".
Later, the two extremists were arrested and one was jailed for a short term while the other was fined 25 pounds.
