The incident occurred on an early morning when Mzee Kenyatta was making his way through the lobby of the Hilton Hotel in London.

Reports indicates that as the president entered his Daimler outside the hotel, a young physician’s clerk ran towards him, bumped a policeman and jumped on the  then 74- year old father of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The policeman however, turned and grabbed the assailant, and all three men fell on the car, denting it on the side and damaging the hinges on the open door.

Reports further revealed that, the driver, the policeman and a bodyguard successfuly overcame the assailant and had him arrested.

On the side was a 30-year old white man shouting; 'Kenyatta, go back to Africa! This is the man who murdered our white brethren in Africa!"

The two assailants were later identified as Martin Guy Alan Western and John Hutchyn Tyndal and belonged to the Greater Britain Movement organisation which were opposed to Britain’s change in colonial policy.

Despite the Kenyan Government lodging a formal protest through its High Commissioner in London, Dr. J. Njuguna Karanja, Mzee Kenyatta in a later speech forgave the two saying that he was never physically hurt.

"There is no society of angels, black, brown or white. We are human beings and as such we are bound to make mistakes. If I have done a mistake to you, it is for you to forgive me. If you have done a mistake to me, it is for me to forgive you.” Mzee Kenyatta said.

The two;Webster and Tyndall were later convicted for threatening behavior, insulting words and assault of President Kenyatta and the policeman.Webster was jailed for a short term while Tyndall was fined 25 pounds for his contribution.
