Just early this year, a bucket was recovered in Nyanchwa estate in Kisii and upon scrutiny, a head of a dead person was recovered further raising questions on the morals within the community.

Cases of witchcraft are synonymous within region and in 2009, 11 suspected witches were lynched at Marani sub county.

But in 1989, a bizarre incident took place at a Seventh Day Adventist church in Nyakeore, Nyamira where church elders were caught at mid-night feasting on human flesh.

A former church elder, who spoke in confidence, recalled the day in which a pastor was guided by Holy Spirit to tour the church early in the morning.

"He went to church following just his inner feelings that something was not right. Upon arriving at the compound, he found elders doing unthinkable.

"He prayed for few minutes and left the scene. Even though they scampered for safety, some magic happened since all of them were captured on the church wall," he added.

For years now, the miraculous photo could not be erased from the church leading to demolition of the structure.

However, when members decided to build another church, the mysterious photo could aso be detected thus causing confusion.

Until now, members of Nyakeore SDA church always use the church compound for services every Saturday since they cannot occupy the new church building.

Elder Nyabicha Orina of Ekenyoro, when asked about witchcraft, he does not however dismiss it in entirity.

"It is common to hear such stories. People talk of them but we should just believe in the Almighty God," he said.
