A pastor affiliated to Prophet Doctor David Owuor’s Repentance and Holiness Church set himself on ablaze after learning that he would not be in Owuor’s entourage to a crusade in Kisumu.
Pastor Fred Otieno made the attempt on his life at Dr Owuor’s house in Mugwe Court in Gigiri Division, Nairobi in December, 2015 ahead of Prophet Owuor’s trip.
Pastor Otieno was rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in critical condition after he was rescued by neighbors.
The pastor wrote a suicide note claiming to have been facing frustrations, before trying to burn himself with cooking gas.
Kiambu OCPD Steven Ng’etich said that pastor Otieno’s clothes were in a heap that was on fire and a 13-kg gas cylinder was seeping out.
The pastor who serves at Kings Outreach Ministries that also belongs to Prophet Owuor was rescued by neighbors after they saw smoke emanating from the house.
“The pastor suffered burns to his legs, hands and forehead during the incident but is in a stable condition at the Kenyatta National Hospital,” said OCPD Ng’etich as quoted by Kenyan-post.com.
The pastor had also sent SMS messages to his friends and to Prophet Owuor of the Ministry of Holiness and Repentance and had written a suicide note.
The police said that pastor Otieno tried to burn himself after Owuor told him that he will not be among those who will preach at his crusade and will be engaged in other duties instead.
