A historical events writer, Kamau Ngotho, has unmasked dark movements that were precedent to the 2013 presidential race.
Powerful state house power brokers were reportedly scheming on which man would be safe for the then president Mwai Kibaki to leave power to.While scouting around, the men settled on Musalia Mudavadi.
There was however one obstacle to Mudavadi’s presidency, at least according to the schemers, the duo of Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto.
The clique started hunting down Kenyatta to convince him to drop his ambition.
When he got wind of the plans, Kenyatta switched off his phone and went underground. He was only appearing to close confidants and political friends.
Frustrated, the state house group looked for his uncle George Muhoho with clear instructions that he takes Uhuru to state house.
Ngotho, writing in the Sunday Nation, narrated how Muhoho took Kenyatta to state house where he was immediately taken to a meeting.
The meeting had President Mwai Kibaki, two top civil servants, a top security head, and a senior State House official.
The five, safe for Kibaki, were the schemers. Uhuru was told how all strategists showed he would not win the top seat together with Ruto because of the ICC case.
They also told Kenyatta that intelligence showed voters would not buy another Kikuyu candidate. The only option to lock Raila Odinga out of power was to look for a safer pair of hands and that is why they had settled on Musalia Mudavadi.
They told Uhuru he had no option but support Mudavadi. Reluctantly Uhuru agreed.
That is how Uhuru and Ruto came to announce about him (Uhuru) agreeing with Mudavadi over who will be a presidential candidate in a deal coined among URP, TNA and UDF.
The union did not however last as Uhuru came back to his senses and said the development was as a result of ‘madimoni’.
