ODM leader Raila Odinga is not a stranger to controversies especially the rivalry among leaders supporting him.
In 2016, during his first ever tour to Nyamira, Raila was caught in crossfire between Governor John Nyagarama and the then West Mugirango MP James Gesami.
With both eyeing ODM ticket for 2017 gubernatorial elections, rival supporters convened strategic meetings to outshine each other ahead of Raila's tour.
"It was a vicious fight between Gesami and Nyagarama. Gesami had the party's will due to his leadership position as regional chair," said Jason Mogaka, one of Nyagarama supporters.
While Gesami organised a mega meeting at Assembly grounds, Nyagarama's team prepared Nyamaiya stadium for the same function.
To antagonise Gesami's team, the governor's supporters dumped poop in both ODM regional offices and the assembly grounds.
"That is the only was we could have outsmarted them. We had to employ dirty tactics to carry the day," Mogaka added.
When Raila arrived, he was led to ODM offices which were evidently stinking human waste and summarised the meeting within five minutes.
At the assembly grounds, ODM supporters were welcomed with human waste all over the field but it did not deter them from giving their leader audience.
Later on, after all the theatrics, Raila proceeded to Nyamaiya for another parallel meeting which had been organised by the governor.
Last year, Nyagarama beat Gesami in ODM primaries and later on in August polls to successfully defend his seat.
