William Samoei Ruto showed his political skills best during the 2007 presidential elections when he tactfully displaced retired President Daniel Moi as the Rift Valley political kingpin.
Sensing a possible vacuum in the leadership of the Kalenjin nation, Ruto sprung up and marshaled the community behind Raila Odinga who was running for the top seat in an ODM ticket.
Ruto was among Raila’s lead campaigner. At the KICC, which was the now defunct Electoral Commission of Kenya’s main tallying centre, results had started to stream in.
ODM and PNU supporters were at the centre monitoring how results were coming in.
On Saturday, December 27, things started to go south as results from some constituencies started to raise eyebrows; there were missing forms as well as returning officers bringing different results from what they had announced on phone.
Footage of things at the KICC captures Ruto, in his trade mark cap, complaining bitterly to ECK chairman Samuel Kivuitu.
He claimed ECK was trying to rig the election by ‘cooking results’.Ruto wanted ECK chairman Samuel Kivuitu to declare ODM’s candidate Raila Odinga the winner of the election.
It is one time that Ruto stood firmly for Raila.
