After many years at the helm of the Central Organizations of Trade
Union(COTU), the
union Secretary General Francis Atwoli is now considering giving up his retiring from the influential position to give space for other younger leaders.
In an interview on JKL Wednesday,Atwoli who is now serving for the 4th term said that he has always been ready to retire but the workers have urged him to stay put further saying that as a leader who cares about the well being and wishes of the workers he represents, he has to follow their commands.
''These is elective position, you don't offer your candidature.I have twice asked my people to let me retire but they have declined asking me to stay put,'' said Atwoli who is also the Vice President of the International Trade Union Confederation(ITUC)
He however said that he is ready to go home at any time saying that he has mentored enough young people who can take over from him.
''I have mentored a lot of young people in my office, even my assistant is now out of the nation representing the interests of workers,'' he said further maintaining that leaving the position will not render him idle.
''If i were to retire today i would either go into politics in my party KANU or go to my church and teach Catechism,'' he said.
