A section of youths in Subukia Constituency want Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to fulfil his promise on constructing of modern youth polytechnics in every constituency.
Speaking on Monday in Subukia town, some youths most of whom sat for KCPE examinations last year said that almost two years after the promises were made they have not seen any signs of any polytechnic being constructed as promised by their governor during his last campaigns.
They said that many of them might not have money to join universities and middle level colleges and they were hoping that institutions would have been established by now to save them from being rendered useless and idle after clearing high school.
“Mbugua promised to construct one modern polytechnics in each constituency but we are not seeing any sign of that happening, and we are just wondering whether it was just a campaign tool,” said Timothy Kamonji who sat for his KCPE exams last year.
Agnes Mwirigi who runs a cyber café in Subukia town said that the Governor should have thought of equipping the existing youth polytechnics instead of embarking on constructing new ones something she said is expensive and time costly.
“We have some already existing youth polytechnics and the governor should have just equipped them with modern equipment and enough staff and other needed manpower because it would have been less costly and time saving. Instead of letting youths idle in the society they should be sent to these polytechnics,” said Mwirigi.
Creation of well equipped and modern polytechnics in every constituency was one of the many pledges that governor Mbugua made during his campaign for the 2013 general elections.
