Former Kenya International striker Dennis Oguta Oliech rose to the limelight in 2001 while playing for 2008 Kenya Premier League Champions Mathare United.
Full of energy and blessed with lightning speed, Oliech’s talent was never in doubt.
In 2002, he was being mentioned in the same breath as Real Madrid superstar Christiano Ronal and former England Captain Wayne Mark Rooney.
Oliech was among young players whose football journey was destined for greater heights, due to his goal-poaching instincts.
Dennis Oliech then left Mathare United to join Qatar’s Al-Arabi’s; a team he played for between 2003 and 2005.
He played alongside former Argentina lethal striker Gabriel Batistuta.
In 2004, he was offered Ksh 200 million to change his citizenship from Kenyan to Qatari.
He refused the offer.
Born in a footballing family, Dennis Oguta Oliech left Al-Arabi and joined French side Nantes.
He played for the team between 2005 and 2007 and later played for AJ Auxerre and AC Ajaccio in France until 2015, before leaving to join Dubai CSC OF Saudi Arabia in 2015.
That was his last Club to play for.
Oliech later served as an ambassador for betting Company Betway.
The 33-year-old played 77 matches for Harambee Stars and scored 34 goals for the national team.
He is remembered for scoring five goals, to help Harambee Stars win the CECAFA senior challenge cup in Tanzania in 2002.
He was part of the team that last featured for the Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia, in 2004.
Currently, Dennis Oliech is training with South African side Free State Stars where he is hoping to be given a contract.
The South African side is being coached by former AFC Leopards Coach Luc Eymael.
