Elisha Busienei is the immediate former Member of Parliament for Turbo constituency, Uasin Gishu county.
He was elected MP in 2013 under the then United Republican Party (URP).
Before joining Parliament, Busienei was a Councilor in the defunct Municipal Coucil of Eldoret but ‘upgraded' to MP when devolution came in place.
The former MP is well remembered after he hit the headlines in 2015, being accused of sexually harassing the Taita Taveta Woman Representative Joyce Lay during a trip to Tokyo, Japan.
Lay had claimed that the MP tried to forcefully solicit for sex from her by forcing himself into her hotel room.
She sent a barrage of messages to an internal WhatsApp platform used by MPs, giving details of how her colleague attempted to solicit sex from her.
The Messages were later leaked to the public causing a social media storm.
In the last year’s general elections, Busienei lost during Jubilee party nominations, coming in third behind Kevin Okwara (winner) and the current MP Janet Sitienei Rotich.
Since losing in the primaries, the former MP has taken a low profile.
Even when a group of Turbo MP aspirants from the Kalenjin community resolved to back Janet Rotich, an Independent candidate to face off with Okwara, the Jubilee candidate, Busienei was nowhere to be seen.
He was a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto given the fact that he was the DP’s Member of Parliament.
It is not yet clear whether he will be back to try and reclaim the seat in 2022 or not.
