The last ODM rally he attended was in Kisumu County on October 1.

This is despite him vowing to champion countrywide presidential campaigns for Opposition leader Raila Odinga, in a bid to kick out Jubilee from power.

The Mombasa governor was expected to lead MPs and governors to Kisii County on Friday, October 21, for by-election campaigns for Nyacheki Ward candidate Naftal Onkoba, but failed to turn up.

He was said to be out of the country.

Joho on Monday skipped the Bomas of Kenya address by Raila, where 10 party rebels were expelled, for working with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party.

“You are either with us, or them,” Raila told the cheering crowd at Bomas.

Joho has been focusing more on Mombasa County projects.

The ODM deputy leader, was at some point described by many as the potential running mate to Raila in the coming 2017 general election.

He was however quick to dismiss the reports, saying he will defend his gubernatorial seat come 2017.

“I do not want to be Raila's running mate. I am waiting for 2022 when I will battle it out for the national top seat,” he said.

His Senator Hassan Omar has also declared interest in the county top seat, and a fierce political battle is expected during the campaigns in the Coastal city.
