Jakoyo Washington Midiwo is a man being missed by many, especially by those who followed National Assembly proceedings when he was Member of Parliament (MP).

The former Gem MP, known in political circles as Otada (one with a lot of energy) was an articulate debater, and a big defender of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Amollo Odinga.

Being Odinga’s cousin and a big believer in his political ideologies, Midiwo could not just shy away from a fight or a heated verbal exchange in defense of 'Baba' .

But that is now all water under the bridge as Midiwo is no longer in parliament, for the first time since he was first elected in 2007, and re-elected in 2013.

Before last year’s general election, Midiwo sought to defend his Gem parliamentary seat on ODM party ticket.

He faced his bitter rival Elisha Odhiambo in the ODM party primaries. Odhiambo humiliated Jakoyo in the nominations  garnering 13,400 votes against the MPs 8, 950.

Midiwo disputed the results. When his protest fell on deaf ears, he jumped ship and decided to defend his seat in the August 8th general elections as an independent candidate.

He lost again to  Odhiambo. He filed a petition, and again lost the battle in court.

The former MP then went quiet. Until now, it is not clear what his game plan is ahead of the 2022 elections.
