Former Kitui Governor Julius Malombe has taken a low political life after losing re-election in last year's (2017) general election.
Malombe contesting on Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper Party lost to Governor Charity Ngilu.
The Wiper Party politician emerged second in the hotly contested general election.
Dissatisfied with the election results, Malombe petitioned Ngilu's win on grounds that the election was marred with irregularities and illegalities.
Malombe further claimed that Ngilu's win did not reflect the wish and will of Kitui people.
However, Malombe suffered a blow in his petition after it was dismissed by the High court.
The court ruled that the former governor failed to provide sufficient evidence to nullify Ngilu's win.
Malombe was slapped with Sh6 million fine as the cost for the petition.
Malombe has since filed an appeal against the against the High court ruling.
The former governor is, however, under pressure from Kalonzo Musyoka to drop the appeal as Ngilu says she is ready to work with him.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Malombe could make a comeback in 2022 based on how governor Ngilu performs in her five-year rule.
Ngure argues that Ngilu was elected based on Malombe's poor performance during his term.
"Malombe, who enjoys Kalonzo's political warmth can make a comeback if governor Ngilu fails to deliver on development," he said.
Ngure adds that Kitui 2022 gubernatorial election will attract new faces.
