ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s elder brother Oburu Oginga has been a main political figure in Nyanza politics for a very long time.

The former Bondo Member of Parliament (MP) has always been in politics, either as an elected or nominated.

Before the August 2017 general elections, 75-year-old Dr. Oburu Oginga faced his political rival Gideon Ochanda in the ODM party nominations.

The veteran politician lost, but in a quick turn of events, he declared himself the winner. After a public outcry, his declaration was overturned by ODM’s top brass.

Ochanda was handed the ODM ticket and won the 2018 general elections.

It sounded as a political death bed for Dr. Oburu, but he was later elected among the nine Kenyans currently serving as members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) based in Tanzania.

The new position seems to have occupied Raila’s brother so much to an extent that he is no longer vocal on Kenya’s political matters.

What is not certain though, is whether he is done with elective politic or not. But as he has always shown over the years, he is not a man to be ruled out easily.

Apart from Dr. Oginga, other Kenyan representatives in the EALA are: Florence Jematiah Sergon, Simon Mbugua, Aden Nooru Mohammed, Wanjiku Muhia, Kennedy Musyoka (Kalonzo Musyoka’s son), Abdikadir Aden, Mpuru Aburi and Fatuma Ibrahim Ali.
