Residents of some counties have complained that they are yet to enjoy the government's subsidised unga prices.
According to a study conducted by the Standard in Bomet, the subsidised maize flour has not yet hit the shelves in most shops as the commodity continues to go at Sh200 per 2kg packet.
This has angered the resident who want to enjoy the Sh90 packets announced by the government last week.
A Chepalungu shopkeeper said operators in the rural areas are still disadvantaged despite being the main suppliers of maize.
“We serve a large number of people unlike supermarkets and our customers are disadvantaged because we are forced to set new prices,” she said.
This outcry has called for the immediate intervention of Bomet governor Isaac Ruto, who has raised his concern over the limited supply of the commodity.
Ruto said families in the rural areas are starving because the flour had been confined to Nairobi and other urban areas.
“It is sad that while President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy Willian Ruto boast of eating meat at State House, ordinary Kenyans are facing starvation,” Ruto said in Chepalungu on Monday.
