Electricity distributor, Kenya Power has announced that it will launch a massive crackdown on illegal power connection in the country.
The State owned institution said Nairobi and Kilifi will be the first counties where the crackdown will be rolled out as it seeks to cut costs it accrues from illegal power consumption in the country.
The operation will be launched by Chief Executive Officer Ken Tarus.
In Nairobi, the first area to feel the institutions wrath over unauthorized electricity connections will be Donholm Nairobi while in Kilifi, Lunga Lunga will be the zone where the crackdown will be launched.
The operations both in Donholm and Lunga Lunga will be carried out on the same day. The company did not announce the day.
The company estimates that it loses about Sh1 billion in sales approximates due to system power loses.
On November 12 2017, the company said in relation to power losses" "We are deploying an information technology system to help manage system losses."
"In this regard, we have acquired an Energy Balance Module software to help identify areas with high losses within our power network."
The Jubilee administration is set to roll out a program that will jack more power connections to individual households and institutions across the country. The program runs until 2022.
