The late Kenneth Matiba is not only a national icon but more of savior to the dying democracy. Like many great icons in the world, he was humble but dedicated and determined.

He started a battle that no one else would have dared to. Him along with others who were fed up by the barbaric leadership in the 80s and 90s. In his cameo, he fell a great giant Dr. Julius Gikonyo Kiano, a former Cabinet Minister in the Kenyatta government. It should be noted that Kiano was not a pushover but a close ally of the President.

Matiba was known to be generous and had already made a name within Mbiri Constituency (now Kiharu). Unlike many other politicians who made money and riches after getting into power, Njindo made his wealth before getting into power. In fact, in 1979 he hired a chopper for his campaigns. He did a witty form of politics which pulled large crowds, this became a threat to the reigning regime.

He led a good life creating harmony with one another, culminating in the birth and success of the second liberation. Matiba together with Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Masinde Muliro, Martin Shikuku, Phillip Gachoka, Salim Ndamwe, George Nthenge and Ahmed Salim Bamahriz fought for the rights we enjoy today.

Matiba's political life was long and painful.  In fact, he was a symbol of pain. I wonder who will wear his shoes. Where on nationalism will he fit?
