Ever since the “golden handshake” took place between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga, the popularity of Wiper party has been fast-dwindling.
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka seems to be losing balance.
His fellow National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principals seem to be headed to different directions, leaving him in a limbo.
Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party seems to have already moved on from the shock of the handshake.
In fact, they have embraced the handshake and have vowed to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta to unite Kenyans.
They seem to have mastered the saying, “If you cannot beat them, join them.”
Their leader has since gone on a rampage of “greetings” and meetings with other Jubilee politicians in a bid to make amends and put the interest of the country first.
Recently, he even met former president Daniel Arap Moi, a meeting that has since raised eyebrows and many unanswered questions.
ODM has never lacked a strategy to shake the political scene.
Maybe that is their trick to stay relevant in the game.
Now they are talking of making changes to the constitution through a referendum.
While ODM faction of NASA is busy pushing for a referendum, Ford-Kenya and Amani National Congress parties are busy rooting for Luhyia unity in preparation for 2022 elections.
This unity talk was strengthened after senators ejected Ford-Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula and replaced him with Siaya Senator James Orengo.
Wetangula has since vowed to focus on clinching the 2022 seat without the support of Raila Odinga whom he alleged betrayed them when he (Raila) went to meet Uhuru Kenyatta alone.
While ODM party, Ford-Kenya party and ANC party are charting new paths in preparation for 2022 elections, Wiper Party is facing a myriad of challenges.
According to a report published in the Standard newspaper on April 16, the chairman of Wiper party Kivutha Kibwana hinted at resigning as party chairman.
Kibwana cited a number of challenges facing the Kalonzo-led party including disrespect from nominated members.
Which way forward for Wiper party? Will the party survive and remain intact by 2022?
Will it remain relevant come 2022?
These are the questions that will continue to boggle the minds of many followers of the party.
