At least two people including a herdsman and a Primary School teacher at Hyrax Primary School who was a passenger of a motorcycle taxi were seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when a strong whirlwind obstructed their vision.
The incident occurred along the dusty St. Emmanuel Road in Nakuru town near Blankets Factory.
An eye witness, a police officer at Blankets Police Post Constable Alfred Kivoi said the accident occurred after the motorcycle rider lost control and hit a herdsman and several sheep at a roadside.
He said the passenger of the motorcycle taxi fell off the bike and landed on a rock material on the road that caused serious injuries on her head while the herder sustained injuries on his left leg after the bike landed on him. He added that at least three sheep were injured during the accident.
“The motorcycle taxi operator was driving at a speed when a strong whirlwind erupted on the road and obstructed vision. He jumped aside and acted fast to remove the bike from the herder and offered first aid to the passenger before he was joined by other Good Samaritans,’’ narrated Kivoi who was on duty at the roadside when the accident occurred.
The passenger was rushed to the nearest Pine Breeze Hospital by good Samaritans.
A teacher at Hyrax Primary School Joan Misiko who talked to this writer at Pine Breeze Hospital grounds after visiting the injured passenger said her colleague was coming back to work after attending to a private engagement in town when she got involved in the accident.
