The mobile phones were on Tuesday handed over to volunteer health workers who operate within community units across the county.

Speaking at the County Hall in Eldoret town after issuing the phones to the Health Workers, the Health Services County Executive Member (CeC) Margaret Chepkwony said the move will improve on reporting  and enhance referral systems in the county.

"The phones will be installed with software that will enable the health worker to key in patient information and connect to our servers even from the remote areas," Ms Chepkwony noted.

"We intent to scale up the services in future so that the phone will have all the tools a health worker requires," she added.

The CeC further pointed out that acquisition of the mobile phones will go along way towards noncommunicable diseases prevention in the county.

"This is a post prevention tool as it helps us monitor diseases like Cholera, Diarieh among others making it easier to timely distribute drugs to the affected regions," she noted.

The 258 mobile phones were given to the county government of Uasin Gishu following a proposal they wrote to the World Health Organization (WHO).
