In Kenya, the successful people don’t share the ‘secret.’ Could this be one reason why we still lag behind others? Did you know the more you lift someone, the higher you climb up your own ladder?

A mentor stands with you virtually your entire life. This is because mentors are not paid. They are not motivated by any payments from mentees. Mentors are motivated by the success of the mentees. A mentor literally becomes part of your life. With a mentor, there is no such a thing as “the destination” or “made it” position such that you outgrow any more help. And this keeps you in check and balance.

With a mentor, there is no such a thing as graduation. It is continuous improvement. Getting better by the day towards your maximum potential. A lot of costly mistakes in relationships, career, business, and life, in general, would be avoided if people found genuine mentors and agreed to be mentored.

A mentor never looks down on you no matter the mistake you make. True mentors have a restoration spirit. Where others write you off, a mentor picks up your broken pieces and mends them with the precision of a veteran surgeon. They cover up your wounds and never expose you to the public.

A mentor leads by his life. He walks the walk. He knows the way. He guides by role modeling. When you have a mentor, you learn from someone who has already arrived at where you want to be. They know exactly what it takes to get there and what sacrifices need to be made.

Experience is an invaluable tool. Experience can’t be purchased, it can only be earned, or shared. A great mentor will share their experience with you to help you achieve your goal in the best possible way they know how.

Anytime you start on a path towards something new, there is going to be a lot of uncertainty within yourself along the way. That’s natural. Most people can overcome that uncertainty by themselves. Others can’t. This uncertainty becomes a lot easier to overcome if you have a mentor. Why? Because they help to build confidence.
