Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir is the son of the late KANU stalwart and controversial politician Shariff Nassir, who was popularly known for his ‘Moi atatawala Kenya Mpende Msipende’ statement.
Nassir was elected the Mvita MP in 2013 under an ODM ticket, unseating the current CS for Tourism Najib Balala.
He is a member of the Departmental Committee on Finance, Planning and Trading, and also a member of Public Investments Committee (PAC).
He is also the Chief Executive Officer of Radio Rahma.
The Mvita legislator has featured among the most performing leaders in Mombasa County, which can be attributed to his personal commitment in promoting education.
He has been in the forefront of urging parents to take their children to school.
Nassir at one time found himself weeping in public after being overcome by emotions as he addressed his constituents on matters of insecurity.
In March 2016, Nassir's bodyguard was withdrawn and the MP ordered to return his gun.
He said the withdrawal of security officers attached to Coast region leaders is a show of intimidation to those fighting corruption and those who supported the opposition in the Malindi by-election.
"Corruption that has grown roots in this government shall be fought whether by us or anyone else. The truth never gets hidden by chest thumping," he said.
