With the next general election date drawing closer by the day, politicians in different constituencies, counties and regions are placing themselves in position ready to battle it out for the top seats.
Garissa County hasn’t been left out either. With the top seat being the main target, different leaders have shown interest in the top seat, with the incumbent Nathif Jama ready to defend the seat he won in 2013.
Jama, who has courted controversy in recent times, will face stiff competition from his perennial rival in the name of Ali Korane, who was installed by his clan to go for the county top seat.
Korane, who has been in politics for a while now, first came into the limelight when he vied for the Dujis seat in 2007, where he lost.
Having worked in the military and other government offices, he is one of the few people who have a clean record (at least none documented), and is known to be a philanthropist who over the years has involved himself with community work including improvement of some villages in the community.
He is well educated, and as such, has helped several students further their studies, which he does without regardless of the clan.
He has also worked as the Garissa DC, and seems ready to make a comeback and revive his political career that seemed almost over after Jama was declared winner of the last elections.
The former information PS is a serious businessman, and has been named as one of the richest politician-cum businessman in the country with interests in real estate and other international businesses.
He narrowly lost to governor Jama in the March 4, 2013 polls, where he garnered 35,098 votes, compared to 37,910 of Nathif Jama.
