Beatrice Elachi is a Kenyan politician. She is the Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly. She won this rare seat on 6th September 2017, after replacing Alex Ole Magelo who didn’t contest. Immediately after her election victory, she becomes the Majority Whip in Kenya.
Beatrice was born in 1973 in Kakamega in a family of four. She is a married mother of nine children. Beatrice schooled in St. Teresa’s Primary School for her Primary Education, she joined Moi Girls Vokoli High School, in Vihiga County for her secondary education before joining Africa Nazarene University in Nairobi for her Degree and Masters in Bachelor of Arts degree in Peace and Security Studies.
Before joining politics, Beatrice used to work as a Programs Officer for the United Nations Program for Women (UN Women), under the National Council of Women of Kenya and the Collaborative Centre for Gender and Development. She was also a women parliamentarian’s trainer under the United Nations Program for Women, between 2003 and 2010. Between 2013-2010, she was the Secretary-General of the Alliance Party of Kenya.
Beatrice joined politics in 2013. She got nominated into the Senate through the Alliance Party of Kenya as a member. From the Senate, she quickly rose to become the first Kenyan woman in history to hold the rank of the Majority Chief Whip in the Upper Chamber.
In 2017, through the Jubilee Alliance, she won the Dagoretti North Constituency primary elections. However, she lost to Dagoretti North Constituency MP, Paul Simba Arati in the August general elections.
In the same year, she got nominated and elected as speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly. She started working from January 2018.
