Henry Carlos Kioko was born in Machakos 38 years ago and went to Kitonyini Primary School and completed his high school at Kapsabet Boys.
Kioko assumed leadership positions from his early days in Kapsabet as the chair of the school boxing club.
After completing his KCSE he enrolled for a Certificate in Psychology with the University of Nairobi and later joined the Kenya Police College as a police constable trainee.
While in the police service, he was reassigned to the Commissioner of Police office as a junior public relations officer.
In 2004 he then enrolled with the Cyprus Institute of Marketing for a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing Communications and later joined Strathmore University Executive Leadership to sharpen his leadership skills.
The ambitious risk-taker Kioko in 2008 resigned from the police to join the corporate world and rose to the level of General Manager/CEO at Security Group Africa.
He came to the limelight as the founder and CEO of Beryll Foundation that targeted to plant a million trees in Machakos County under the #MillionTreesMillionDreams Campaign.
Henry has declared his candidacy for the Machakos senatorial seat currently occupied by Johnston Muthama.
Kioko is a progressive thinker fearlessly promoting sustainable democracy and devolution. He acknowledges service to one’s community is a value he holds dear.
Kioko says every experience in his career is about solving problems, bringing people together and building consensus.
He reveals that consensus is missing in politics today and it’s the type of leadership that citizens need and that delivers results. Kioko says voters care deeply and are concerned and pained by the dysfunction by the role of senate.
“They want change and I represent change they need," says Kioko.
He recently introduced his journey to senate under a campaign “Niko Na Carlos Safari Ya Senate”.
Kioko says his main inspiration to leadership is Haile Gebressilasie and Martin Luther King.
Kioko has said that using his extensive knowledge and experience in marketing, he will work with the governor who the people will decide to market Machakos as the ideal tourism and investment destination.
Henry is married and has four children.
