Machakos senator Johnson Nduya Muthama’s star in politics has quickly risen and made him regarded as one of the fierce opposition leaders in the country.
His approach and style of politics has made him a darling of many people especially in Ukambani.
He is a Kenyan of Kamba origin and was born October 20, 1954.
Senator Muthama is a graduate of Gemological Institute of America and a member of the Geological Society of Kenya. He is also a member of the Kenya Chamber of Mines.
Muthama was elected as Machakos senator in 2013 on Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) party and is one of the opposition leaders who openly criticize the Jubilee government on policies. His criticism on Jubilee government has seen him rub shoulders with Jubilee leaders.
Before being elected as Machakos senator, Muthama was Kangundo MP from 2007 to 2013.
The vocal senator serves as Cord chief whip in the senate.
The Machakos senator is a critic of Governor Alfred Mutua and an ally of former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka. He openly criticizes the Jubilee government on policy issues
Apart from politics, the Machakos senator is an established businessman with interests in Agriculture and Infrastructure.
In a recent interview with Radio Jambo, Muthama said that he was a Christian and a man who values the family as a unit.
The Machakos senator is a diehard fan of Arsenal and Barcelona. Locally he supports Gor-Mahia FC

Muthama's wrong side
The senator has several times been linked to hate remarks. He was among the eight legislators who were arrested and detained in police cells for four days over hate speech allegations.
With the 2017 elections around the corner, Muthama is drumming up support for Cord and it will be interesting to see whether his influence in Ukambani will help Cord clinch the 2017 general elections.
