Mary Saiti Matini was born and raised in Isoge Nyansiongo ward in Borabu constituency, Nyamira County.

The mother of five studied at Nyanchwa Boarding Primary School for her elementary education, Kamagambo Girls for her secondary education, Kereri Girls for A-levels and later Kenyatta University whwre she graduated with a bachelor of education degree.

She has tutored at Asumbi Teachers Training College, Kisii TTC, Kisii High School and Kisii Diploma College.

Later, she joined Moi University for her masters in administration planning and curriculum development and immediately after graduation, she was employed as the principal of Sironga Girls Secondary School for 14 years before going back to Asumbi TTC. She hang her boots from the education sector while at Rigoma Secondary School.

Matini entered the Kenyan and Nyamiran politics in 2013 where she was running mate to the then governor hopeful, Enock Nyakiba.

She was the only woman who was the running mate for gubernatorial seat in the county during the 2013 general election.

After losing the 2013 general election, she has now set her eyes on the woman rep seat and is expected to get stiff competition from the incumbent Alice Chae, former nominated MP Catherine Nyamato, Jerusha Momanyi, among others.
