Makau was first elected in 2002 as a councilor under the old constitution. In 2008, he was elected as a mayor and re-elected in 2011.

Makau was elected to parliament as the Mavoko MP in 2013 on a Wiper ticket.

The MP was re-elected to the same position after he successfully defended his seat on August 8, 2017.

Makau was kicked out of parliament chambers on Tuesday after he assumed the position of leader of minority and Suba East MP John Mbadi claiming he was the official leader of minority.

"Wiper is the third largest party. ODM has joined the Jubilee administration after its leader Raila Odinga announced working with President Uhuru Kenyatta last Friday, I'm the minority leader," Makau said.

Political analysts argue Makau could be looking for prominence since rumors has it that he will be onthe ballot for the Machakos gubernatorial position in 2022.

"Come 2022, it will be Makau's time because he has done a lot to Mavoko constituents and therefore the gubernatorial seat suits him," said Mlolongo MCA Daniel Mbevi.

Mbevi made the remarks during the International Women's Day celebrations at Mavoko Stadium in Athi River, Machakos County recently.

"Wavinya Ndeti had vied for the gubernatorial race on August 8, 2017 but Makua does not see her as eligible candidate to win the seat, she lost the easy task to Governor Mutua. She can't make it in 2022. Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu was born in Mbooni and is married in Kitui, reason why she does well politically," added Mbevi.

However, some residents argue it is too early to discuss the  2022 politics, they are waiting for the region's elected leaders to fulfill pledges they made during their political campaigns.
