He was popularly elected to the eleventh Parliament on a TNA ticket that is now under the Jubilee Coalition.

Shidiye had served in the same capacity in 1997 under a Kanu ticket headed by the former President Moi after beating Farah Maaalim.

In 2002, he lost the seat to Abdillahi Sheikh Dahir who vied on a Kanu ticket and later in 2007, he lost again to Farah Maalim.

In the last 2013 elections, Shidiye was re-elected to the legislative position as Maalim exited the space to vie for the senatorial post which Yussuf Haji won by a narrow margin.

In the eighth Parliament that served between 1997 and 2002, Shidiye stood as the deputy government chief whip of the Kanu party with his boss being Sammy Leshore.

Just like any celebrity in Kenya, Shidiye has never missed a dose of bad luck. In February 2000, Shidiye and Leshore were attacked along Jogoo road. A matatu hit them from behind where a hit-man came and shot at them. Thinking they were on the mercies of death, the hitman left. They were later treated in Nairobi Hospital before being flown to London for specialised medication.

Shidiye has also participated in peace and reconciliation talks.

In 2011, he jetted to Somalia to arbitrate in a local conflict only to be humiliated saying, "The conflicts in Somalia can only be solved by the Somalis themselves".

On his future political career, Shidiye is set to defend his legislative space but with a yet-to-be-announced party ticket.
