The former MP is among the country's veteran female politicians and was the first woman to be appointed as Cabinet Minister in retired president Daniel Arap Moi's government.

A close ally of former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Nyiva is expected to play a key role in the Ukambani 2022 succession politics.

Here is what you didn’t know about the former veteran MP:

1. Birth 

She was born on April 29, 1942, and raised at Matinyani village in Kitui West Sub County.

2. Education

 She is an alumni of Alliance Girls High school.

3. Family

She was married to Kenya’s first Chief Justice the late Kitili Maluki Mwendwa and blessed with two children.

4. First female minister 

Mwendwa became the county’s first woman to be appointed as Cabinet Minister under retired president Daniel Arap Moi’s government.

She was appointed Culture and Social Services Minister in 1995.

5. Politics  

Mwendwa joined politics in 1974 and became the Kitui West MP.

She represented Kitui West until 2002.

In 2013, she contested and woman Kitui women rep seat on Wiper party ticket.

She, however, retired from active politics in the run-up to the 2017 general election.

The former MP is said to be pushing for Ukambani unity ahead of 2022 general election.

Sources say the former veteran lawmaker plans to host top Kamba politicians in order to broker unity deal ahead of 2022.
