Patrick Makau King’ola is the Member of Parliament for Mavoko Constituency in Machakos county. He was elected in March 2013 on Wiper party ticket that is now under the Cord Opposition Coalition.
Makau is a professional banker and he worked at the Standard Chartered bank up to 1999 when he ventured into politics to become Athi River Councillor in 2002.
In 2008 he was popularly elected as Mayor of Mavoko Municipality where he was also re-elected to serve under the same capacity in 2011.
He vied for the legislative position of Mavoko constituency, emerging the winner but his victory was challenged by the losing aspirants who filed a petition at the courts.
However, the case was dismissed by Justice Mutende who issued that the election had been conducted fairly and in accordance with the law.
“I find the election of Mavoko constituency to have been fairly and transparently done in accordance with the electoral provisions. The verdict of the Kenya's electoral body is hereby upheld,” said Justice Mutende in her ruling.
Makau has on several occasions found himself brushing off with the Machakos county governor Dr Alfred Mutua.
Among the incidents is in November 2015 when Mutua directed the EACC detectives to investigate the legislator over allegations of land grabbing.
Governor Mutua had then said MP Patrick Makau was among senior politicians involved in massive corrupt cartels surrounding the East African Portland Cement and Company.
On another occasion, Makau brushed off with Wavinya Ndeti, pointing out that the iron lady was not fit for any elective position in the county but to go and vie for a gubernatorial position in Nigeria.
"Wavinya Ndeti is an arrogant and proud woman who is not fit for any elective political position. She can just go to Nigeria and vie for the position of a governor," Makau was quoted by the media.
On his political future, Makau is set to contest for his present legislative position under the Wiper ticket come next year's general elections.
