Professor Samson Kegengo Ongeri is a Kenyan politician.
He is currently the Kisii County senator after he won the seat during last year’s hotly contested elections.
Ongeri was born in 1938.
He was first elected to parliament in 1988 and represented Nyaribari Masaba constituency in the National assembly.
His tenure ended in 2002.
Prof Ongeri served as Education minister from 2007-2012.
Also served as Foreign minister from 2012-2013.
In 2013 he unsuccessfully contested for the Kisii Senatorial seat.
In 2017 Ongeri was elected as Kisii County senator after he decamped from Jubilee party to ODM.
He is the oldest senator to make it to the Kenyan senate.
He served as Athletics Kenya chairman from 1974-1984.
Since he was elected last year, Ongeri has been at the forefront defending NASA leader Raila Odinga in his bid to unite the country.
Ongeri is among the leaders from the Gusii region who have been in politics for a long period.
