Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) Raila Amolo Odinga has said he is not too old to run for the Presidency.
Speaking at Magongo in Mombasa during his recent visit, Raila affirmed that he is still strong enough to battle it out with President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto in the upcoming polls.
The former prime cited the case of Nigeria where people voted for President Muhammadu Buhari aged 72.
“The people of Nigeria decided to elect a president who is older than me. I urge you all to join hands in this journey,” he said as quoted by Star.
His sentiments come at a time when a section of leaders from different parts of the nation have been urging him to retire from active politics because of his age.
During his tour at the Coast, Raila rubbished claims that Cord was becoming weaker considering the defections of different leaders from the coalition including Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya and Budalang’I RailaMP Ababu Namwamba.
“ODM is becoming strong and Cord is getting stronger while others from the opposition are joining us. Our aim is to form a big river like the mighty River Nile.
This river emanates from Lake Victoria and is joined by other small rivers to become the mighty Nile,” he said.
