The move Raila Odinga made on going ahead and meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta can be very detrimental to Nasa as a coalition. The supporters and the other three principals of the coalition, in their words, denied on having prior knowledge of the unexpected meeting between the two. Now, the three co-principals are demanding for an explanation why Raila attended the meeting.
Kalonzo Musyoka, Wycliffe Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula were in their regular day to day activities, in their different geographical locations at the time of the meeting. Either, the three leaders of the Wiper, ANC and Ford Kenya, said they were not informed of the meeting.
In the past few weeks, the strength of the Nasa coalition's unity has been wavering and swaying non-stop amid speculations of its crackdown. Being the coalition leader, Raila Odinga was the main consultant to end the adversarial verbal altercation between the parties' leader. Evidently, the Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho's letter to Kalonzo was not motivated, the two being together in a coalition.
Kalonzo Musyoka, who has Unsuccessfully vied in the Presidential post once and twice as Raila's Deputy, will emerge and will remain the biggest loser in case Raila abandons Nasa. Noticeably, the most recent MoU, Raila had agreed to support Kalonzo in his 2022 Presidential bid. This would be a nightmare if Nasa breaks down before the next Presidential elections.
Either, the former vice president, Kalonzo, missed the chance of being a presidential candidate in last year's elections only to run as Raila's running mate. Truly, Raila has exploited Kalonzo's efforts and popularity despite the fact that they have lost not once but twice.
Regretfully, if Raila moves to the side of the government and probably supports Ruto, then Kalonzo will have his political dreams dimmed. He will remain to regret why he let it go and accepted to be Raila's running mate for the second time, in which they lost after a long struggle with both devotion and commitment.
