According to a report released by the National Crime Research Centre, Mombasa is the leading county when it comes to cases of defilement.

The survey was conducted in 13 different counties, which is not the main point here.

One of the questions we need to ask ourselves is who will save the girl-child from defilement.

However, this does not mean that boys are not being defiled.

In the recent past, criminals from all over the county have been arraigned in various courts for defiling minors.

It is disturbing to know that some of these minors are being defiled by their own parents. How does even think of defiling their own daughter?

It is also shocking to note that some of the parents have stood in the way of finding justice for their children by accepting bribes in a bid to drop the cases.

Defilement cases are also being dropped by our courts due to lack of sufficient evidence.

Are we going to sit back and watch the lives of our future leaders being destroyed?

It is the role of religious leaders, parents, learning institutions, both the county and national governments to work together to ensure that the girl-child has a reason to smile again.
