A cashier with a wholesale shop in Nakuru was today arraigned at a court in Nakuru to face charges of stealing sh,400,000 from his employer in November this year. Steven Mwaura ,30, who worked for Wakari Wholesalers was charged with failing to bank money that he collected from customers on diverse dates on October and November this year thereby committing an offense of theft from employer. The prosecution desk told Senior Resident Magistrate Felix Kombo that the accused was arrested on December 5 this year after the shop’s accounts officer Philip Mulinge reported to the management about the missing money from the bank. The court heard that after reconciling the monthly business transactions, the accounts officer failed to notice bank deposits reflecting the cash book and receipts at the firm during the month of November after receiving a bank statement. According to the prosecutor investigations by police revealed that the accused is said to have deposited some of the stolen money in his Mpesa and Mshwari accounts. He denied the charges and was detained after failing to raise a bond of sh.500,000.The case will be heard on January 7.
